NIKE SECRET CAGE APPEARANCE

A basketball frenzy swept through Shanghai as superstars, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul attended the National Finals of the Nike Secret Cage basketball tournament in China.

USAB UNVEILS "UNITED WE RISE" KICKS

Appearing in Shanghai in preparation for Beijing, USAB team members Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony made an appearance to unveil shoes specially designed for the upcoming competition in Beijing. The special line of footwear, named “United We Rise,” was introduced to be worn during the medal round competition.

ALL RUSSIAN ATHLETIC FEDERATION UNIFORMS

Nike unveiled the new uniforms for the All Russian Athletic Federation (ARAF), the lightest and fastest designs in the Federation’s celebrated history. The team will be wearing the uniform for the first time in Beijing.

NEW NIKE USAB SPOT

Nike is set to release a new TV spot via Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, that highlights the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team’s commitment to winning a gold medal. The ad is set to the score of Marvin Gaye’s rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” from the ’83NBA All-Star Game. A two-and-a-half-minute version of the spot will debut tonight following the final installment of ESPN2's “Road To Redemption". A 30- and 60-second version of the ad will begin airing nationally on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, the historic club FC Barcelona visited NIKETOWN Chicago and were greeted by a sea of fans in red and blue. Hours before the squad arrived, Barca fans packed themselves into the main floor around the stage. The energy in the room was fantastic – football fans were eagerly waiting to see some of today’s biggest stars, while passionately chanting, “Barca, Barca, Barca!”

NIKE ALLOWS SWIMMERS TO WEAR SPEEDO LZR SUIT

Nike has agreed to allow its endorsers to wear the Speedo LZR Racer suit for Beijing Games competition. Endorsers such as U.S. swimmers Aaron Piersol and Brendan Hansen received a letter saying that wearing the LZR suit would not be seen as a compromise to their contract. Nike would still benefit from potential wins by Piersol and Hansen because the two will still wear their Nike cap and goggles.

NIKE DROP JOEY BARTON

Nike has ended its sponsorship deal with English Premier League club Newcastle United MF Joey Barton, who recently completed a jail term for assault, Nike made the decision to sever ties with Barton, whose two-year contract with the company was believed to have been worth [US$75,159] a year, when he was imprisoned for assault in May. Barton recently served 74 days of a six-month jail sentence after a December '07 fight in which Barton punched one man 20 times and left a teenage boy with broken teeth.
